Coarse Angling Loughcrew Magalithic Tumb

Coarse Angling Coarse Angling is a popular past-time, especially in the lakes around Bailiborough, Virginia and Drumcondrath where bream, roach, perch, pike, rudd, tench and hybrids are caught.

The Salmon of Knowledge Fishing Competition is held in Slane in August, each year.

The Salmon of Knowledge legend stems from the River Boyne. The old poet Finnéigeas tried for seven years to catch the Salmon of Knowledge from the River Boyne. The person to catch the Salmon of Knowledge and eat it, would gain great wisdom. Finally, he caught it! He requested the legendary Fionn Mac Cumhaill to cook the fish for him. However, during the cooking, Fionn burst a blister on the salmon's skin, burning himself slightly. He put his thumb in his mouth to soothe the burn, a piece of the salmon's skin had stuck to his thumb and he inadvertently ate the piece of skin. Alas! - it was to Fionn and not to Finnéigeas, that the wisdom was bestowed.
